Maureen Lawrie

Hello and thank you for visiting my website.

A little about me….

A number of years ago, when my back was giving me some gyp, I ‘stumbled’ across Remedial Massage.  After a couple of sessions, my back felt fantastic and I was hooked.  This is it I thought.  I wanted to spread the word and help others.  I signed up for the course straight away and haven’t looked back.  Since then, I’ve added a few extra ‘tools’ to my kit, honed my skills and helped hundreds of people to move fully and freely.  It still brings enormous satisfaction, after 16 years, to see pained expressions change to joy as ease of movement is restored and life lived once more without restriction.

Life is too short to spend it laid up and fed up

Well let’s face it, you’ve come for one reason and I’m certainly not going to waste your time.  If I can help I will and if I can’t I’ll direct you to the right person.  98% of the time, in my experience, the correct application of tailored and targeted Soft Tissue Therapy sorts most issues out pretty quickly and once you know how to look after your body there is no reason why you shouldn’t enjoy a full and active life long into your later years.

Soft tissue therapy

You have one body and the tissues tell your story

My skill is to ‘listen’ to your body with my hands, ‘read’ its story and bring it back to balance.  The body is an endlessly fascinating subject of study and I keep up to date with latest research as well as regularly updating my skills. The EMMETT Technique has taken my treatments to a new level with minimum intervention that give quick, lasting results.  I take a holistic view underpinned with science and have integrated the work of Dr David Hamilton around research on the mind/body connection, how kindness is cardioprotective and how changing your posture can change your mood.

Beginnings

I started life in Edinburgh, spent some years working in the theatre, taught drama in secondary schools and had another business.  I believe in the importance of touch and run courses in order to promote the benefit of nurturing touch to our health and well-being.  When I’m not working as a therapist, I run community arts projects and events in my local area.

Away from work….

I grew up watching Tom and Barbara in the Good Life and have always aspired to the same. Living sustainably and being self-sufficient – growing our own veg, making bread, enjoying simple things – brings enormous pleasure.  I also enjoy walking my dog, gardening, playing the violin and practising pilates – though not all at the same time!
